At the Division II Boys swim and dive finals, seniors Zac Miceli, Michael Fabatz, and juniors Kyle Banner and Justin Beemer place 12th for 400 freestyle relay on March 12.

“We did very well overall, in all the qualifying events. Everyone had gotten a personal best,” boys swim coach Brad Jones said. “We had three great swims at finals, and two records were broken. The 400 free relay record was broken after 34 years. And Zac Miceli also broke the 200 freestyle record.”

Both records were set in 1982. The previous time for the 200 individual freestyle was 1:44.89; Miceli swam a 1:43.64 to break the record. The previous record for the 400 freestyle relay was 3:18.13; the relay team swam a 3:17.93 to break the record.

“When I found out I broke two records, it felt extraordinary,” Miceli said. “I was so ecstatic and it feels great to be able to see my name on the record board.”

Miceli also broke a record in 2014 for the 200 freestyle relay. In total, he has broken three records.

“I am hoping that my name will stay up on the board for just as long as they were previously set,” Miceli said. “I feel that my records will encourage other swimmers after me to make future goals for themselves as I had for myself when Brant Cassidy broke the records for the 50 and the 100 freestyle.”

Miceli said that he plans on swimming in college to not just improve, but because he also loves the sport.
