Fenton boys swim competed against Grand Blanc high school and Powers Catholic High School on Dec. 13, where they won against Powers with a score of 107-73 and lost to Grand Blanc with a score of 77-111.

“This was the first dual meet of the season and it was a pretty big meet because those teams are generally fast teams,” sophomore Noah Maier said. “Although we as a team did not swim our fastest times because it was the first meet, I think we still swam pretty well.”

Maier swam in two individual events, the 200 ind. medley and the 100 breaststroke, placing 7th in the IM with a time of 2:25.63 and 7th in the breaststroke with a time of 1:14.60.

“With counties coming up, I think that now, after both teams have seen us, they will see that we are not a team to think likely of,” Maier said. “We will be working hard, especially over Christmas break, in preperation to swim against them at that meet; there, we will see who will ultimately reach the wall first.”

Freshman Joel Diccion swam in the 100 butterfly and the 100 backstroke, placing fourth in both events. He swam the butterfly with a time of 1:00.46 and the backstroke with a time of 1:03.57.

“I think I did very well; I dropped a lot of time for both of my individual events,” Diccion said. “I dropped about a second for my butterfly and I do not know how much time I dropped for my backstroke, but I am happy with the results of both.

Diccion also swam in the 400 free relay with previous state qualifiers seniors Kyle Banner and Justin Beemer. The relay placed third at the meet with a time of 3:36.85.

“As one of the captains of the team, I feel good with where the team is at and where the relay is at,” Banner said. “I intend to help lead the team to another Metro title and to go back to states with the relay where we will try to break the record for it again.”

The next meet will be a home scrimmage against Bay City Western and Milford on Dec. 27.
