Comparing Galentine’s to Valentines Day

Amber Kelly, Writer

Galentine’s Day, the holiday created by Amy Poehler’s character Leslie Knope on ‘Parks and Recreation’, is a day where “Ladies celebrate ladies”.

Fans of the hit show Parks and Recreation first premiering on NBC, have always dreamt about eating waffles and whipped cream in JJ’s Diner with Leslie Knope and all of her gal pals. Many women have started to celebrate the holiday when it occurs on Feb. 13.

“The women in my family get together and go out to lunch or dinner on Feb. 13. We exchange a small gift with each other,” Grob said. “Like a Galentine’s Day card, or chocolates.”

The holiday gives an excuse for ladies to meet up with their best friends and exchange gifts, to celebrate their friendship.

Ladies have fun at their favorite restaurants, or each others houses. In Parks and Recreation, Knope and her friends tell the same love stories over and over as a tradition. The holiday has swept the nation with many women making time on Feb. 13 to celebrate. Galentine’s Day is all about celebrating ladies, and giving ladies a special day to have fun on Feb.13. Leslie Knope celebrates it, why shouldn’t you?
