Girls varsity basketball fights for a win against the Linden Eagles Friday, Jan. 10

The Lady Tigers passed and dribbled themselves into a loss at home against the Linden Eagles.

The match was a vicious battle for the rival schools, both taking their turn holding the lead, Eagles coming out on top with 55 points scored ahead of the Tigers 47.

“It was a very aggressive game,” senior and four varsity player Hannah Evo said. “ It was very scrappy but everyone worked hard. The result just didn’t go our way.”

Even though Linden is Fenton High’s number one rival in sports, the girls aren’t giving the Eagles any kind of special treatment.

“We just think of it as any game,” Evo said.  “But we didn’t come out with enough intensity this time.”

Evo’s sister Emma Evo, a freshman also on the varsity team, got to experience what it is like to play against the Eagles for the first time while scoring six points and retrieving two rebounds.

“Being a freshman on the team is nerve racking sometimes in tense situations but I’m so glad to be on the team and the upperclassmen have been so helpful with everything,” Emma Evo said. “Even though the Linden game was rough we all worked together and played hard as a team.”

Stand out player for the Eagles leading her team to victory was sophomore Taylor Smith.

Smith scored a total of 13 points on Friday and stayed calm in the high contact game shooting three for three from the foul line.

Fans can come support the varsity ball players on Feb. 14, Valentines Day, for their rematch against the Eagles at Linden.
