Athletes find success on the track despite delay to spring practice
As the long Michigan winter continues into the spring, Fenton sports team’s are finding it difficult to deal with the inconveniences. Outdoor teams, such as track and field, are reduced to working out in gymnasiums and hallways. Whether it is practice cancelled due to snow days or chill winter temperatures keeping athletes inside, Michigan weather has proven to be a burden.
“It is very difficult to practice inside,” Track and Field sprinter and sophomore Nina Lombardi said. “When it is cold outside during our sprint workouts many of us get sick and are missing practices. When we practice inside the hallways it hurts our joints. The long winter is hurting our season”
It did not seem to matter to senior Matt Cubr who after only after five practices placed eighth in the high jump at the Grand Valley State University Invitational.
“I jumped six foot in the high jump which I was proud of,” Chubr said “I have been working hard in football for the past four years and in the track the last two hopefully it will payoff and I will make it to states this year.”
Cubr and the rest of the boys and girls track and field team got off to a good start despite the slow start to training. Only better things can come once the weather finally warms up in this state of Michigan.
