During lunch and student resource time (SRT) FHS math lab is open for all students to use. Students can go in to complete homework and go over test reviews or quizzes. Math teacher Brittany Wojcik runs the math lab; during SRT she is in room, 1-127, and during lunch, she is by the cafeteria in room 6-113.
“[Math lab] makes it easier if you are struggling with math,” Wojcik said. “If you want to go over homework and tests or quizzes, or just need a quiet place to work, I think it’s a great place to come to work.”
According to The Hechinger Report, “High school students can learn two to three times as much math as their peers from a daily dose of tutoring at school.” The source also stated, “The daily 45-minute period was largely spent doing practice problems together. Tutors sometimes gave their students extra practice on the topics being taught in their regular algebra class that week.”
Wojicik has seen a rise in students’ grades after going to math lab weekly. Students have been going up letter grades due to math lab. “The students in my classes that come to math lab have higher grades and are understanding the material better,” Wojicik explained. “Come to math lab to see a difference.”
Understanding schoolwork makes coming to school more enjoyable, as well as making studying at home much easier.
“Since going to math lab I have been able to understand my homework and assignments,” senior Heather Stringhan said. “I have also been having more fun doing math because I understand it.”
