The purpose of the Board of Education is to address the business of the School District. Every month they meet in a public setting at the Administration building to address citizens and ask for any feedback and concerns. Read below for a summary of topics covered at the Dec. 4 board meeting.
On Dec. 4, the Fenton Area Public Schools Board of Education meeting took place in the Administration Building and included topics about the approval of the consent agenda, consisting of the November 2023 Treasurer’s Report. They later voted on this topic and it was approved.
After voting, new District School Nurse Autumn Stachowski was introduced. Stachowski has her state of Michigan registered nurse license and has been a practicing nurse for the last 12 years. She has experience as an RN charge nurse, with stroke care patients and diabetic patients.
On the agenda under Administrative Reports, newly proposed and revised courses at FHS like creative writing, child development, senior seminar, marketing and more were discussed. Some courses may be available for next school year.
The Board discussed for the second time the Neola Policy, volume 38. Policy #1540 is a policy that was added to address existing administrative staff production and recalls based on seniority in the recent legislative changes.
Later on, citizens spoke up about the Gear-Up program. They expressed how it inspired them to be a better student and get their grades up. The Board voted to rename Gear Up.
After Board announcements and other discussion items, the meeting concluded with the Superintendent’s Report in which Superintendent Heidie Ciesielski thanked all staff for going to JingleFest on Dec. 2. The next meeting is scheduled for Jan. 8 at the Administrative Building.
