Fenton High offers several different clubs appealing to many crowds. A club can be a way of meeting new people and learning new skills. FHS offers 30+ unique clubs. This series will feature the clubs of FHS along with what they entail. “Beyond The Bell” is meant to showcase the clubs at FHS and what they are.
As stated in its official Instagram bio, Fenton Youth Initiative (FYI) is Fenton High School’s “youth-led activism club.” FYI tackles a variety of communal, social and environmental issues and allows students to “learn about, discuss, advocate and protest about local and global issues.”
FYI’s committees focus on Young Voters, Community Issues, Women’s Rights, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer plus Rights, Mental Health and Animal Rights. FYI is also involved with many fundraisers, events and charities in the Fenton Area Community.
“We collect donations for Adopt-A-Pet,” FYI President Senior Anna Heimberger explained, “and we are currently doing a can drive to collect money for feminine hygiene products.”
For the rest of the 2024-2025 school year, FYI is led by Heimberger, along with Vice President senior Gwen Grove, Secretary junior Madeleine Minock, Treasurer junior Alicia Verscheure and the head of Public Relations, junior Ash Holmes.
For any students interested in joining or learning more about FYI, the club members meet in Art teacher Jennifer Hamilton’s classroom, 5-116, in the Fine Arts Wing, every second and fourth Tuesday. Their Google Classroom code is dce2aub. You can contact and keep up with FYI through their Instagram and Facebook @fenton_youth_initiative.
