On Nov. 29, the annual Holiday Food Drive hosted by Key Club will begin collecting donations of canned food. The food will then be distributed after collection days during Basket Delivery on the Dec. 20 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the World of Wonder Ellen Street Campus gym. To reach out to more people in need, Key Club has been collecting in the school district and the community.

“This year we are trying to expand our collection points for the food drive, senior Kortney McQuarters said. In past years we have just collected at the high school, this year we are expanding to the local elementary schools, and middle school as well as local businesses in Fenton in order to collect the maximum amount of food.”

Students at Fenton High will bring canned food in their SRT’s and put it in the box. They will be able to bring in canned foods from now through Dec. 12. Key Club’s goal is to feed over 100 families by providing them holiday dinner.

“During this time, people can help by donating non-perishable canned goods to the collection boxes in the school office, media center, or in their SRT,” McQuarters said. Any donations are greatly appreciated by Key Club and we would just like to see the entire student body get involved in this project, whether they can contribute 5 cans, or only 1 can, everyone’s contribution is valuable.”

The Holiday Food Drive goes out for the whole community for those in need. With participants bringing in canned food, students will be able to serve more dinners for families in the community.
