Another teacher finds a home at Fenton High School
Sports fanatic, movie lover and T-Swift fan math teacher Sara Gadwa joined the teaching staff this fall. Before coming to FHS, Gadwa taught at Troy High School for a year.
“When I taught at Troy, I taught Pre-Calc and Algebra 2,” Gadwa said.
Gadwa’s current teaching schedule includes Geometry and Geometry Support. Gadwa said she enjoys teaching geometry because she loves problem solving and seeing how her end results differs from what the actual answer is.
“I have always loved working with students,” Gadwa said. “But in all reality, I love helping students achieve their goals. I want them to understand what they’re learning and to feel comfortable asking me questions when they need help. I definitely want them to know that I am always here for them to come talk to.”
When she’s not teaching, Gadwa plays golf, bowls and is always watching sports. Also, on the weekends, Gadwa takes frequent trips to the movies with her family and friends.
Listening to music is another activity that Gadwa enjoys doing outside of school. Amongst others, the most played artist in her iPod is Taylor Swift because her songs help her think positively and to not stress over the little things.
“My favorite Taylor Swift song is ‘Red’,” Gadwa said. “She has some slow and fast songs so her music is great for everything and her songs are so much fun to sing along. I’m not a huge fan of screamo hard core music or country music. Even though country isn’t my favorite, Taylor’s music is a mix between country and pop so it just evens out.”
Second to Gadwa’s love for Taylor Swift is sports, especially baseball.
“My favorite sports team is the Detroit Tigers,” Gadwa said. “Don’t get me wrong, I love all sports but I just love going to baseball games during the summer.”
Gadwa has one older sister and owns a cottage in Brighton, MI. She also has a musical past as a former drumline participant in high school.
“In drum-line I was a symbol player at first,” Gadwa said. “Then in my junior and senior year I was on the base-line and I played the fourth out of five bases and then I went down to the third one. It was pretty great.”
One of Ms.Gadwa’s geometry students sophomore Jessica Eastman thinks she is very helpful.
“I love Ms. Gadwa,” Eastman said. “She’s always there to help me when I need it and she’s just a fun person to be around.”
