FHS News sells baked goods to fund Cheboygan Trip

The Bake Sale took place Sunday, Feb. 4 at Walmart before the Super Bowl Game.

The night of the Super Bowl is typically one of the most partied nights in America. While most Walmart visitors were planning on purchasing food and drinks, perhaps for a Super Bowl party, the FHS News staff was standing outside selling baked goods.

“We had the bake sale to raise money for our annual Cheboygan trip,” senior producer Emily Deming said. “When we visit Cheboygan, we film wild life in the area, and produce a TV show about what we found. The bake sale went well, but we did leave at two instead of four because of how cold it was.”

Despite the above-freezing temperature of 34 degrees, the windchill of 15 degrees made setting up in front of the store a challenge.

“The tape for the signs wasn’t sticking because of the cold,” Deming said. “And when it did stick, the wind blew the signs off anyways. We eventually resorted to just holding the signs.”

The news team raised almost $200 in the four hours they spent at Walmart, and combined with the bake sale that took place in November, funding for the trip is looking optimistic.

“It will definitely help for the trip, although we still need to raise a bit more money,” advisor Rich Ashley said. “We are actually ahead of where we were last year at this time, so we’re looking good.”

Leftover baked goods can be found in Ashley’s room, 5-120, and they will be given out to students who wish to donate to the Advanced Video program.
