Returning ski team member Seth Thompson weaves between check points during a meet at Mt. Holly.

Ready to hit the slopes in time the with fresh snowfall, the ski team gears and prepares for their upcoming season.

“We have been doing strength and conditioning since June, and we’ve been practicing on snow for two weeks. Our race season began on January 8th, against Powers.” head coach Tim Hiscock said.

Hiscock has been the head coach for two years now and expects to stick around for many years to come. He also expects both the girl’s and boy’s teams to reach states this year and looks forward to the many newcomers having the to improve their skills on the slopes.

“New students to the team this year are Jackie Doty, Lauren Gruber, Natalie Guenther, Tommy Kemp, Milo Keranen, Carson Lowell, Brendan McInerney, Ashlyn Smith, Andrew Tesner, Zoe Weinberg and Andy Bennett, who is the only student from Linden,” Hiscock said. “So far everyone new to the team is making great progress in practice, and I expect will ski well for the team.”

Last year, the girl’s ski team qualified for the state meet where multiple individuals placed for their particular event, though many of the qualifiers were departing seniors.

“Our state skiers last year were Seth Thompson, Julian Weinberg, Lauren Rhoads, McKenna Valley and Kelley Mckay,” Hiscock said. “Seth Thompson is returning as an all state skier, and Zoe Weinberg is a freshman skier that qualified for the USSA Junior Olympics at Beaver Creek Colorado last year. We have great depth on the team this year, and I expect we’ll see many more having strong finishes in the Divisional, Regional, and State finals.”
