The Purpose of the Board of Education is to address the business of the School District. Every month they meet in a public setting at the Administration building to address citizens and ask for any feedback and concerns. Read below for a list of topics covered at the meeting on Nov. 6.
On Nov. 6, the Fenton Area Public Schools Board of Education meeting took place in the Administration Building and included information about the 2023 bond proposal, policy updates, reports, proposals and other updates regarding FHS and North Road.
Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the meeting was introduced with the 2022-2023 school year audit report and presentation from Executive Director of Finance and Personnel Dr. Doug Busch. Then, Principal Stephanie Roberts and teacher Lauren Vandeberghe raised the subject of the North Road Elementary therapy dog, “Daphne,” which has already undergone the required training and was certified on Sept. 12, but there is pending approval from the board.
Afterward, FHS Principal Mike Bakker highlighted and recognized Teacher of the Year Tracy Skene and thanked LaFontaine and the Board of Education for support of this program. For more information about Tracy Skene becoming Teacher of the Year, click here.
Policy Changes were also present in the meeting and included updates regarding artificial intelligence in classrooms, free and reduced lunches, vaping/tobacco policies and firearm policies.
The meeting concluded with the superintendent’s report thanking the voters of the bond cast and looking forward to the Chamber of Commerce celebration and FHS SRT chats on Nov. 16. The next board meeting will be held on Dec. 4 at the Administration Building.
