The purpose of the Board of Education is to address the business of the School District. Every month they meet in a public setting at the Administration building to address citizens and ask for any feedback and concerns. Read below for a summary of the topics covered on Feb. 5.
On Feb. 5, the Fenton Area Public Schools Board of Education meeting took place in the Administration Building and included information about Fenton’s consent agenda, administrative reports and support for students with special needs after they graduate high school.
At the start of the meeting, FHS teachers Tracy Skene and Julie Montana shared with the board members ideas on how to help students with special needs after high school. They explain to the administrators that starting this year, they hired another job coach and started paying the kids for their work-based learning. They also have taught their students finance and how to manage their money. Skene and Montana continued discussing some things they have set in place for work based learning and how it has improved this year.
Later on, AGS Principal Eric Rettenmund of Andrew G. Schmidt Middle School, AGS Interim Assistant Principal Lisa Whinger, and AGS Liaison Officer Amy Cole discussed the After School Enrichment program. It’s a way for middle schoolers to have clubs like the high schoolers have. They also discussed the middle school’s athletics and fundraisers.
There was also a proposal on making the Fenton Schools website more user friendly and making information about the district easier to find. They also have changed the transparency page on the website.
To close out the meeting, the board members voted on policies about board powers, school administration evaluation, employment of professional staff, staff reductions recall, vacancies, staff discipline, probationary teachers and professional staff evaluation.
