Thinking about picking a college is known to make many students anxious, according to the Anxiety & Depression Association of America. However, to help students better prepare, Fenton High has college visits and field trips planned for the year, which started Sept. 17, and here’s information about them.
FHS has representatives coming from colleges to talk about things like admissions, criteria, test scores they’re looking for and to give a background on what programs they offer.
Upcoming soon are the Teacher Leader Symposium on Oct. 17 and Michigan Career Quest on Oct. 23, promoted by Coordinator of Career and College Readiness Programs Lindsay Grady.
“[The Teacher Leader Symposium] is geared for anybody that’s interested; those that are interested in going into a career in education,” Grady said. “[This includes] teachers, administrators, coaches—anything in education. I don’t want people to think that it’s just being a teacher.”
The Michigan Career Quest is a morning field trip, lasting half of the day, at Dort Financial Center. It works by having students going through attendees at different hands-on exhibits for occupations like manufacturing, health care, skilled trades and public safety. Spots for the Michigan Career Quest are limited and students are urged to sign up soon in the counseling office if they’re interested.
With the tools provided by the FHS counseling office, students are able to feel more confident when picking a college or career path as they get a deeper view into their options.
