Halloween is nearing within the coming days and people should consider staying home rather than going out due to multiple factors that potentially make the day less enjoyable.
- Low visibilities
Certain statistics during Halloween show that it can be dangerous for kids to go from door to door. According to the National Safety Council, kids are actively two times more likely to be hit by vehicles while crossing the street. The cause for this is the low lighting during the night causing the kids to be less visible compared to earlier in the day.
2. Holiday, yet school day
By staying home people can avoid the aforementioned concerns: There’s also more to staying home throughout the whole day. Many students believe we should have Halloween off of school. Though students have the day after Halloween off as it’s a teacher work day, it also makes sense to have the day off itself as well: for most other holidays, Fenton High has the day and surrounding days off.
3. Halloween weather
Halloween is known to be no stranger to cold weather, even to the point of snowing. Last year, Flint had 1.1 inches of snow and 0.7 inches of precipitation on Halloween according to Weather.gov. This weather is unideal as people may slip and cause even more harm.
4. Colliding plans
An unfortunate event that may occur is being unable to decide on what to do with friends. Some may prefer watching movies, some may prefer going out and others may even prefer to take the day off and relax. The number of activities can make it hard for friends who can’t come to agree on any direct plan, especially with school taking up a chunk of time that could be used to reach an agreement and make the day more enjoyable.
Staying home on Halloween should be considered to make the day less cluttered with all the possible bad occurrences. At the very least, the school day issue could potentially be resolved by having students show up in their costumes the day before Halloween if they’d like to still get into the spirit with friends that they may not be able to see outside of school.
