Students are shoulder to shoulder each day in the hallways, but how much do they know about the people walking next to them? This series will feature the students of FHS along with their talents, hobbies, and passions. “A Closer Look” is meant to showcase what makes the students of FHS who they are.
Junior Ash Holmes has always had a passion for the performing arts. As a freshman, he started band, and his love for music and performance has grown into a passion for life that he hopes to continue into college.
“It started my freshman year. I joined Ambassadors and the Marching Band, and then I was in the Jazz Band and I played the bass guitar. That’s where I fell in love with it,” Holmes said. “It’s probably what I want to do in college; I do want to pursue it and it’s my passion.”
Holmes recently joined IB Theatre and has already been cast in several productions, his favorite of which being “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde. Holmes recently was cast as Willy Wonka inFenton High’s upcoming performance of “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”
“It’s exciting and I’m trying to take advantage of the opportunity as much as I can,” Holmes said on being cast as Willy Wonka. “It’s a lot. It also makes me a little nervous because it is such an opportunity that if I didn’t take advantage of it, I’d regret it.”
Holmes credits the new theater teacher David Bassin for his individual success and the program’s success.
“What he’s done for the program in the small amount of time he’s been here is amazing; he’s given me so many opportunities and he’s been great,” Holmes said on Bassin. “It’s a healthy environment and people thrive in healthy environments.”
Holmes’s passion is performing arts which he hopes to pursue. His next performance will be “Charlie in the Chocolate Factory” where Ash as he takes on the lead role Jan. 30-Feb. 1 in the Ruby Zema Auditorium.
