Varsity boys soccer team wins against Clio for homecoming week
October 2, 2015
The boys varsity soccer team won against Clio at Fenton this past Wednesday with a final score of 1-0. In the first half of the game, the one and only goal of the night was shot by junior Liam Adams.
“Jake Martin had a deflected off a defender and it came to me,” Adams said. “I then dribbled through three to four players to find space for the shot.”
Even with 15 penalty calls against the Tigers and only five on Clio , they still managed to win the game.
“With the experience that we have as a team, we try not to let the refs bother us, good or bad,” senior Isaac Moore said. “We always try to keep our composure and play as a team.”
In the second half, it was a back and forth battle between teams. With no goals made and the work of the Tigers defense and offense, Clio was kept from running for the ball.
“Going into the second half we wanted to keep pressure on them,” said Adams. “We wanted to stay positive to maintain the lead.”
The Tigers’ strategy also kept Clio from scoring the goal that would tie the game.
“We knew that Clio was going to fight hard for the equalizing goal,” Moore said. “Our strategy was to possess the ball and fight harder than clio to keep the upper hand.”
The Tigers’ teamwork continued throughout the second half.
“This team compared to last year is a lot more vocal,” coach Matt Sullivan said. “They have great senior leadership.”
The boys next game is Oct. 5 at Holly.
