Flips and back handsprings are some things that may be seen happening by the Fenton, Linden and Lake Fenton gymnastics team as they preparing for tryouts. With the season approaching, they look back on the summer camps and last season to improve for the new season this winter.

“Last year’s season went really well for us,” senior Jordan Dawson said. “We only lost one meet I believe and everyone qualified individually and as a team for regionals. We were a point shy of making it to states as a team and this year I really think we can make it!”

Many of the girls have been practicing and perfecting their skills since last season.

“Back in the summer, a few of my teammates and I went to a summer gymnastics camp called Flip Fest in Tennessee,” sophomore Carly Kozlowski said. “This was my third year going and it was a great team bonding experience for us and we all learned many new skills. I learned my toe hecht and full on floor and my round off back tuck dismount on beam.”

For both returning and newcomers, all of the girls trying out are looking forward to the new season.

“I’m looking forward to switching from club gymnastics to high school gymnastics. I get to meet new teammates and try new things,” freshman Morgan Smith said. “I did club gymnastics at Bounce Gymnastics. It’s different from high school gymnastics, because you don’t get to represent your school, you’re representing a club.”

Tryouts will be held at Linden’s Hyatt Elementary on Oct. 31 and Nov. 2, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Student athletes must have a physical dated after April 15, 2016 turned into the athletic office to be eligible. Fall seasonal athletes will be given a makeup date to work around the current season.
