Conservative American Student Association forms, gains sponsorships

The Conservative American Student Association (CASA) has recently formed. The group’s motto is “To inform and inspire” and is focused on the ideals of the Republican Party. However, one month ago, this organization had not even been thought up. At the typical meeting, it will start off with the Pledge of Allegiance, then they will go over current events in the country/world. There will typically be a snack provided (pizza, soda, etc). At some meetings, some of the sponsors will come in to speak. The speakers go over how they got into politics and how important politics are. They group has asked speakers to try their best to inspire the students.

The association was first an idea three weeks ago. In the last three weeks they have gained sponsorships from local leaders like State Representative Joe Graves and County Commissioner Drew Shapiro. Some of their members have been invited to meetings like the monthly Genesee County Republican Party board meeting. Co-founder freshman Jayden Rittenbury is responsible for getting the sponsorship of Shapiro.

“The rate we have grown has really surprised me,” Rittenbury said. “I think that is it pretty cool how our local leaders still care about society.”

Shapiro was the club’s first sponsor. He pledged to donate $100 per month and has volunteered to act as a financial advisor for the club. He has also expanded his role, spreading the word and getting the CASA more sponsorships.

“I chose to sponsor the CASA because I believe in young people,” Shapiro said. “I wish this would have been at Fenton 10 years ago when I went there. Because, then I might have found my passion for government a lot earlier on.”

Other than Shapiro and his help, political leaders from the state have been involved with CASA, and they have all expressed joy in seeing the youth of America getting involved with the community. Students interested in joining the Conservative American Student Association have multiple ways to get involved. One can speak to Jayden Rittenbury, or go to the website at “fentoncasa.weebly.com”.
