Fenton-Linden boys lacrosse beats Ovid Elsie

As coach Stan Orzel calls his team to a huddle to review some last minute tips, and give his motivational speech as they get ready for the national anthem.

“I review what we’re going to do offensively, what we worked on in practice and go over everyone’s positions and their job, also tell them to not hit anyone in the helmet, poke and lock on your man in coverage,” Orzel said. “I tell Joe Loria to bring them in and let’s play hard. Joe then says 1-2-3 Wolves.”

When offense fast breaks, quickly runs to attack enabling the other team to gain advantage to stop the ball, this how they got easy and quick goals. As defense plays man-to-man, each defensive player guards a specific offensive player, they caused many down balls.

“I played pretty good I had five goals and two assists,” senior Dylan Miesch said. “Everyone was doing their job and we all played together as a team. It was a very big game to build our team chemistry. I think we had a lot of new guys who came and played a big role in helping us, especially with all the first year players. One thing my team could do better would be I guess try and work more set plays.”

Senior Derek Delong passed the ball to Miesch, as he scores for another goal for the Fenton-Linden Wolves coming into the second with a strong start. As the team gathers and celebrates the win, they line up and shake the other teams hand. The team then sits down around Orzel and talk about the game.

“One thing I think my team has to improve on as a whole is Ground balls, we really need to improve on those because in the game of lacrosse the team wins the most ground balls at the end of the game, usually wins the game,” Delong said. “Definitely can always play better but I thought my team played pretty well.”

This season’s record for the Fenton-Linden Wolves is 4-4. The next game is home at the Ivan Williams field on May 12 at 5:30 p.m..
