Michigan Madness: Three college teams represent Michigan in the NCAA tournament

College basketball’s last event of the season is on the horizon and three Michigan schools are represented in this years tournament. Michigan is seeded the highest as a two seed, followed by Michigan State a four, and Western Michigan a fourteen seed. The high expectations for the instate schools has this years tournament as one of the most anticipated in recent memory.

“I have high expectations for this years tournament,” freshman Chase Raymon said. “I’m looking forward to watching my favorite teams and seeing all of the upsets”

Michigan coming off a Final Four run in 2013 will hope to at least get as far this year. The talented three-point shooting team has many picking them to go far in their brackets.

“Michigan will go far, I have them winning it all,” freshman Brady Stebbins said. “They are really good at shooting and I do not think anyone can stop Nik Stuaskus.”

While Michigan may be seeded higher, it is the Spartans who are the favorite to win it all. After an injury plagued season Tom Izzo and the Michigan State Spartans are finally healthy and working on all cylinders. Coming off of a Big Ten Tournament Championship they will be as hard as any team to knock off.

“I believe Michigan State will reach the Final Four,” Raymond said. “They are very deep this year and have star talent in Adreian Payne and Branden Dawson.”

Even the Western Michigan Broncos are getting picked as an upset favorite against a struggling Syracuse team. Led by senior David Brown, Western hopes to continue their hot streak entering the tournament winning twelve of their last thirteen games.

“I also have Western knocking off Syracuse in my bracket, Stebbins said. “Syracuse is in a skid and Western has looked good recently.

While only one team will win it all, the likelihood a home state school could push for a big run seems high. All three teams enter with high expectations and something to prove for their school and the state of Michigan.
