The Fenton community is ending its summer events and moving toward the crisp autumn season, where the cider mills are opening and becoming a place for guests to visit. Mueller’s Orchard, Spicer Orchards Farm Market and Winery and Parshallville Cider Mill are some of the local Cider Mills and Orchards.

1: Mueller’s Orchard

Mueller’s Orchard is open from Sep. 8 to the day before Thanksgiving and is located on Linden Rd. They are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m Wednesday-Sunday. For the month of October, the variety of apples are Golden Delicious, Snow, Red Delicious, Ida Red, Winesap, Granny Smith and Northern Spy. Wealthy and Gala varieties are also available early October. Mueller’s makes their special pumpkin glaze donut, made in October for Halloween.  The donuts are all handmade right in the kitchen and the cider has no preservatives added, so it maintains a fresh taste.

2: Spicer Orchards Farm Market and Winery

Spicer Orchards is open year round on Clyde Rd. and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Some of the festivities include a tractor trivia corn maze, hay rides and a scenic corn maze. Families  can also pick their own apples and pumpkins which are grown fresh on the 350 acre land. The apples that are available to pick are Golden Delicious, Jonagold, Red Delicious, Gala, McIntosh, Jonathan and Melrose.

“This Orchard is also a great place to have out-of-state guests who don’t normally go to orchards and they can come into Fenton and stay with family while eating donuts.” -FHS parent Christine Pondell

3: Parshallville Cider Mill

Parshallville is open Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is located in the little town of Parshallville right along the edge of Livingston County. This mill is a water-powered mill which visitors can see, and it is 136 years old. The apples are freshly grown from an orchard in Linden. Customers can watch the workers make caramel apples and apple pie right in front. Parshallville also sells their homemade apple butter and jam. Visitors love to go there in the autumn season.
