Taylor Swift began her international, multi-billion “Eras tour” in March and the tour is scheduled to conclude in August of 2024. Swift originally announced 52 shows, but following additional US shows and international dates, she will have performed 146 times.
The show itself, spanning over three hours, includes 44 songs from each of her 10 studio albums. Additionally, each performance includes 16 costume changes, varying sets and props, and select shows featured surprise guests.
Surrounding the international anticipation of the Eras Tour, fans across the world united in an effort to secure tickets, book hotel rooms and piece together outfits fit for Swift herself.
According to USA Today, each major city that Swift visited saw an increase in hospitality revenue. Swift was even included in the Philadelphia Federal Reserve’s announcement, in which they stated that her tour has significantly increased hotel revenue in the city.
Similarly, Swift’s contributions to Chicago’s economy set all-time records.
According to the city’s marketing and tourism organization, Choose Chicago, over 44,000 hotel rooms were occupied on the three nights of her performances and approximately $39 million was generated in hotel revenue.
Looking locally, hotel occupancy in Detroit during her shows on Jun. 9 and Jun. 10 was 80.7%, according to Visit Detroit Spokesperson Chris Moyer—making it the best weekend for the hospitality business this year.
In addition to her indirect contributions to urban economies, Swift also personally donated to established food banks and nonprofit organizations in each city she visited.
Gleaner’s Community Food Bank of Southeastern Michigan thanked Swift on Instagram (@gleanersfoodbank) in a post that read, “‘No matter what happens in life, be good to people.’ – @taylorswift. These words ring true today with Taylor’s surprise donation to Gleaners during her #TSErasTour stop in #Detroit! Thank you for making an impact & empowering kids and families with nutritious food!”
Kristin Sokul of Gleaners told the Detroit Free Press, “Her generosity goes beyond dollars for meals. The space in her heart will empower households across Southeast Michigan to live happier, healthier lives and elevate the important issue of food security so others who have the ability to help can be inspired by her example.“
The amount of Swift’s donation remains undisclosed.
Though the Eras Tour has had an international impact; surrounded by ticket scandals, friendship bracelets and nostalgia, Swift has remained humble by giving back to the communities that host her performances.
