Winter has started, which means it is a great time to bundle up with fuzzy blankets and a book. The new year presents us with books of all genres, from horror to romance, to fantasy, there is a book coming out this year for everyone.
Dating and Dragons by Kristy Boyce
“Dating and Dragons” is the second book in a series by Kristy Boyce. The first book is “Dungeons and Drama”. Readers can read and enjoy this series in any order since the books follow different characters.
From the normal romantic love story to an added hint of fantasy and the game Dungeons and Dragons, “Dating and Dragons” has it all. Quinn Norton is a 16 year old girl who moves to a different city. At her new school she is introduced to a Dungeons and Dragons club with one rule no member can disobey, no dating other members.
Norton finds a guy in her class who is also in the club and that boy is no other than charming Logan Weber, according to getunderlined.com. Will she follow her club rules or give in to her feelings?
The book was released on Dec. 31 and is available at the Fenton-Winegarden Library.
Witchcraft For Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix
Horror is no stranger to Grady Hendrix; he has written several other horror books in his time making “Witchcraft for Wayward Girls” a highly anticipated book on Goodreads. “Witchcraft For Wayward Girls” is full of the horror element that is expected while reading a Hendrix book, and some added fantasy with witches.
There is a home for girls who don’t marry and are sent away by their families, a place for them to have children while unwed. Fifteen year old Fern arrives at the home frightened and alone. Everything is strictly watched by adults who say they know what is best for the girls.
Fern is given a book about witchcraft by a librarian, and power is finally given to the girls who have never been able to take control of their lives. “There’s always a price to be paid…and it’s usually paid in blood,” according to Goodreads.com.
This book was released on Jan. 15 and is available at the Fenton-Winegarden Library.
Oynx Storm By Rebecca Yarrows
“Oynx Storm” by Rebecca Yarrows is the third book in “The Empyrean” series. The first two books “Fourth Wing” and “Iron Flame” have left readers thrilled and waiting for more from Yarrows. The Empyrean series is full of romance, fantasy, and a long slow burn in the first book.
The series is setting the stage for a full-blown war that has just barely even started. Violet Sorrengal, the main character, went through a series of challenges to get accepted into the Rider Quadrant at Basgaith War College.
“Iron Flame,” the second book in the Empyrean series, left off with the main character’s love interest, Xaden Riorson turning into a Venin trying to save her. Venin is known as a dark wielder, one turns into a Veinin if they have chosen to wield forbidden magic. Will Sorrengal and Riorson win the war and save Riorson from this Venin curse?
This book came out on Jan. 21, and is available at the Fenton-Winegarden Library.
The books released this winter have a mix of all genres that one could read from, from the classic high school romance in “Datings and Dragons to the horror in “Witchcraft and Wayward Girls” and the fantasy of “Oynx Storm”. Every book has a vastly different plot and something for everyone to enjoy this winter.
