Haunted houses are a popular attraction during Halloween time, with many people attending them each spooky season. Even though they are a popular location during October, are they actually that fun?
According to a Google Form sent out to the FHS student body on Oct. 2, 42 out of 55 students who replied said haunted houses were fun.
“I enjoy them very much and always have a blast when I do go,” senior Makayla Eckler said.
Some of the responses stated that haunted houses are only fun depending on the people who are going.
“Haunted houses seem pretty awful unless you’re with the right people,” freshman Emma Roberts said. “When I’m with my best friends, haunted houses are so much fun and we always end up laughing about our reactions later on.”
Even though 76% of the responses stated that haunted houses are fun, 62% stated they were scary. Then, the question arises : why do people like them if they are scared?
According to Yahoo.com, the reason why people like the scare of haunted houses is because people are not “too scared” by what they are experiencing. A college psychology professor at Knox College stated how the body responds to the scare attractions with jolts of adrenaline and increased heart rate. The scare is just enough to feel excited, but not enough to get panicked.
Haunted houses are scary and frightening with all the jumpscares, but they are fun with friends and loved ones who are able to be leaned on and laugh afterwards with.
