A crowded bus is filled with chatter and excitement as the students from the 10th grade American Studies class prepares to see the movie “Unbroken” on Jan. 9.

“I was really excited to see the movie,” sophomore Jenna Mazurek said. “It was a fantastic read and I couldn’t wait to see how they put the book on the screen.”

The group took two buses to the Trillium theater in Grand Blanc to see the movie. The class read the book during the summer and wrote a journal after every chapter as homework.

“I liked the movie overall, but it could’ve been amazing if they hadn’t cut out the end of the book as much,” sophomore Frank Schaefer said. “I was kind of disappointed at that part, but the rest of the movie was spot on.”

The class had a private viewing/screening of the movie. In order to reserve the theater, the teachers worked out arrangements with the theater in advance and students had to pay for the trip before Christmas break.

“The movie was alright because they left a lot out from the book. The trip was really fun and really didn’t cost much at all,” sophomore Skylar Parks said. “It was so worth reading the book to see the movie too, the book was a great one and I loved it.”
