Open the curtains and look at the stage, see the sets, costumes, and people. Plays take a lot of work, but how much does Fenton’s Drama program put into their shows? The students and directors are putting in hours to get “The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza” ready in time.
“We’re after school every day until about five right now,” drama teacher David Bassin said, “and then in the next couple weeks, it’ll be another hour,”
Students in the play are practicing in groups. Some students are there almost every day while others are there every other day. It depends on who they are and what their role is in the play. However the hours they are putting into the play are undeniable and lots of work. On top of all of the hours these students are spending at the school to practice, they are also working at home as well.
“There’s definitely time spent at home on going over lines,” sophomore Macie Dunkel said, “and just making sure we have all that memorized.
“The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza” has a cast and crew of approximately 50 students.
“It’s a huge cast,” senior Isabella Butzine said, “probably the biggest that I’ve ever worked with.”
The backstage crew is also putting in a tremendous amount of work to pull this show off. The crew has been at rehearsals every day from 6-8 p.m. cleaning the stage and getting props ready for the final performance.
The sound director, Senior Ash Homles said “We took some tech from the middle school,” senior Ash Holmes said. They decided to do this because the cast was so large and they needed to accommodate it.
This is Fenton High School Theatre’s first performance while under the direction of Bassin. He picked this play as a way to introduce himself. He looked through lots of plays to find the perfect one.
“I wanted something funny. I thought it’d be a great way for me, to kind of, introduce myself and the program,” Bassin said. “Kids love Greek mythology. People know Greek mythology.”
Bassin and the FHS Theatre program hope to see everyone at the “The Greek Mythology Olympiaganza”.
The play is being performed through Nov. 7, 8, and 9 in the FHS auditorium at 7 p.m. The tickets to see the play are being sold online at https://fentontheatre.ludus.com, and at the doors on performance nights.
