As the colder weather approaches, so does the holiday season. It is common to host parties and make meals to celebrate said holidays. Many families struggle to put food on the table during the holidays. To help families in need who live in Fenton, Fenton Area Resources and Referral (FARR) and Fenton Kiwanis has partnered with Key Club to organize a holiday food drive.
The goal of this collection, according to the FHS Weekly Update, is to fill food baskets at Thanksgiving and have enough cans to fill additional baskets again at Christmas.
All of the donations go to creating baskets for those in need. They will have basic holiday dishes such as canned vegetables, macaroni and cheese and spaghetti. According to the Fenton High Weekly Update, Kiwanis has helped FARR fill over 100 food baskets for those in the Fenton area.
“The SRT who gets the most cans gets a pizza party,” Key Club Member Janessa Bemman said. “The pizza party is provided by Fenton Kiwanis.”
To help out, students can donate foods such as: canned vegetables, canned cranberries/cranberry sauce, boxed macaroni and cheese, stuffing mix, box cornbread, canned spaghetti sauce and packaged spaghetti noodles during this holiday season. Donations can be made Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the Fenton High Square from Nov. 1-22 or in the collection boxes in SRT classrooms.
