Suicide Prevention walk organized to raise awareness

Every 12.8 minutes someone dies from suicide. In light of recent events, junior Erica Kolanowski has worked with fellow teachers and students to organize the Suicide Prevention walk. It will take place on November 7th, 2015.

“Mrs. Thompson and I have formed a Stand Up, Speak Up Group,” Kolanowski said. “At the group meetings people will be able to talk about problems going on in their life. We will also be doing things for the community to raise awareness about certain issues going on.”

Not only students, but the community will walk to show support and in honor of those who have passed. The 2.2 mile route will begin at the Ivan Williams football field and end at Bush Park.

“I think this is a good time for our community right now because of recent deaths,” Kolanowski said. “This is a serious topic and I want people to become more aware of what is going on and how we can help.”

If you are interested in participating in the walk or joining the group, contact Mrs. Thompson and sign up.
