After losing to Kearsley their eighth grade year, the freshman boys basketball team decided to devise a winning plan with the help of their coach Todd Schroeder. The game plan was to start the the first quarter with defensive pressure full court and get Kearsley to turn the ball over and get easy baskets.

“Our first quarter was the strongest that we have played with 23-5 points on the board,” Schroeder said. “The team came out played defense with energy at the start and defensive stops led to easy baskets. Our weakest quarter was the second quarter.”

The defense was a team effort and playing time was even for each player.

“The players shared playing time equally,” Schroeder said. “Everyone played to the fullest.”

Schroeder encouraged his team to focus on what was going on in the second half of the game instead of the previous half, and to work hard and run the floor.

“Lead scorer was Trent DeGayner with 12 points,” Schroeder said. “The remainder of the top five scorers were Alex Flannery with 9, Jacob Boulay with 6, James McCardle with 6, Alec Kussro with 5.”

The team won the game against Kearsley by 64-21, and kept their winning streak going with the 3-2 record.
