At A.G.S Middle School there is a club called Academic Games which is coached by math teacher  Michael Pearce. There are multiple games that are played by sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.

“We have games that you play like math games, language games, social studies trivia type games and presidential trivia,” Pearce said. “There is also current events and propaganda, which is like about advertising political slogan and how they can be misleading.”

The team meets two days a week after school at AGS from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday to practice for tournaments.

We have one tournament a month that is held on Saturday mornings,” Pearce said. “We compete in a region with teams from the Ann Arbor area. I give some lessons and teach them some strategies in practices. We play against each other in games to practice.

New students come in and new games are created. It gives an opportunity to go to new places and make new friends.

Freshman Ryan Pearce practices an academic game with one of his teammates at last year’s Barnes and Noble fundraiser for the team.

“In my eighth grade year, being a first year team it was interesting seeing sixth graders from other districts being a lot better than eighth graders because of their experience in elementary school,” freshman Ryan Pearce said. “It was really fun to go to different schools and make friends with the other people there, and learning the new games as they were introduced to our team.”

The Academic Games team’s season has came to an end. To recruit new members for the team, Michael Pearce will be at the Orientation that is held at A.G.S, handing out information for all sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.
