Award winning newspaper and yearbook staff looking to recruit people for next year’s staff

Every year the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA) presents the Crown Awards to high quality student print and digital mediums.
“The Crown Awards reward outstanding work done by student journalists no matter how large or small the staff may be,” Executive Director at CSPA Ed Sullivan said. “We seek out excellence wherever it’s found. Because Crowns are national awards, they attest to quality beyond that of state or regional awards. They represent Columbia’s considered opinion of quality and innovation.”
According to CSPA’s web site, a total of 1,236 newspapers, yearbooks, digital media and magazines were submitted this year alone. The InPrint staff will receive either a Gold or Silver Crown this year from last year’s staff submission.
“ The InPrint has won two Gold Crowns in the past,” adviser Pam Bunka said. “Joining staff is becoming part of a nationally recognized publication as well as gaining a voice and obtaining first hand 21st Century Skills.”
Journalism help develop skills that colleges look for. Studies from the Newspaper Association of America (NAA Foundation) have shown that journalism helps raise grades in other classes as well as help improve ACT scores.
“The InPrint staff is looking for motivated and personable people who have a passion for writing, photography or business,” senior Co-Editor-In-Chief Ellie Cowger said. “From my own experiences, being a member of the newspaper has given me great opportunities and experiences to display on my resumes and college applications.”
The award winning Fentonian is also looking for members for next year.
“The yearbook staff is looking for people who are hardworking, sociable and have a positive attitude,” junior Sarah Lawrence said. “People who are willing to work together and interview or talk to people.”
Interested students should stop by room 5-109 for an application. Interviews are being conducted through Feb. 21.
