The InPrint Barista: Gas station coffee is budget-friendly and good

Meghan Maier, Assistant Online Editor

Buying coffee from a gas station is becoming increasingly popular. A perk of going to Speedway is that it can be a lot quicker than going somewhere like Starbucks or Dunkin’.

At Speedway, I got a 20 ounce French Vanilla Cappuccino, and to say I was shocked about the taste is an understatement. I wasn’t expecting this coffee to be good going into it, but it was actually great. The coffee was a little bitter at first, but the vanilla added the sweetness factor and was the perfect amount necessary for an enjoyable coffee.

Speedway offers a wide variety of flavors to choose from such as Caramel Latte, Hazelnut Cappuccino, White Chocolate Caramel Cappuccino, Blueberry Crumble, Mocha Charge Cappuccino and English Toffee Cappuccino. Along with the multiple flavor options, three size options are available— 16 ounce, 20 ounce and 24 ounce. After choosing what size and flavor coffee desired, customers may choose from a wide range of creamers.

The vanilla cappuccino I got is something I would get again, but the next time I would add a little bit of creamer in it to decrease the bitterness and add more flavor to it. This coffee cost me $1.69, which makes gas station coffee a great choice for people looking for tasty but budget-friendly coffee.

Speedway also has plain black coffee available if people are looking for non-flavored coffee. The sizes for plain coffee are the same as listed above. Also available is iced coffee, which you can get in both decaf and caffeinated varieties. If customers are looking for sugar-free coffee, Speedway has a Sugar-Free French Vanilla Cappuccino available. They also have a Fat Free French Vanilla Cappuccino available if someone is looking for something that is fat free.

Speedway also has a rewards club that people can sign up for that is free. Speedy Rewards offers a coffee-related perk— buy six coffees, get one free. You can also earn points towards other snacks, drinks and even gas. I was happily surprised at the outcome of gas station coffee and it will definitely be something that I enjoy again in the future.
