On Sept. 29, the Fenton Tigers and Linden Eagles battled each other for first place in the Flint Metro League. According to maxpreps.com, the Fenton Tigers were 4-1 coming into the game and number 20 nationally in Michigan Division 3 football. The Linden Eagles were also 4-1 coming into the game but were ranked slightly higher at number 18 nationally in the Michigan Division 3 football rankings.
It began with the Fenton Marching Tigers doing their special pregame performance and making a cancer logo to represent kids cancer and how only four percent of federal donations goes to kids.
“I hope the people in the stands could tell what we were making and how much they knew how important this is,” freshman Spencer Phipps said. “I feel like it was something special to add to our performance since this is something lot’s of people should know about.”
Following the pregame show, Linden took a 14-0 lead, but midway through the second quarter everything changed. Fenton was able to tie the game at 14-14. The Eagles were ready and put up 10 more points to make it 24-14. But Fenton was ready and scored the next 26 points of the game, thanks to a few big plays in big moments that gave Fenton a 40-24 lead in the fourth quarter. Even though Linden got within eight points, it wasn’t enough to stop the Tigers who improved to 5-1 on the season and stormed their way up to 18 in the Michigan Division 3 football rankings while Linden dropped down to 22.
In the end, Fenton finished the game with 386 yards while Linden was only able to put up 259 in a tough loss. This marks a huge win for the Fenton football team and hopefully marks that many positive things are to come for the Tigers.
“The atmosphere was second to none, it was so intense. The student section was hype. It was lit. It was next level. It exemplified what true school spirit is,” English teacher Lou Santo said. “Ultimately, this set a standard for other schools to try to follow. And we can say ‘Go Tigers!’”
Fenton fans were excited their team could secure the victory and hope that success can continue throughout the season. After the game many Fenton fans had a lot to say about the football game against the Eagles.
“It was a good win and the student section was super loud,” freshman Zack Pearson said.
In the end many Fenton fans are happy their team could deliver the win against their rival Linden and hope the success can keep going throughout the season. Fenton is on the road this week to face Corunna at Corunna High. Corunna comes into the game at 7-0 while Fenton comes in at 6-1.
