Fenton High’s very own Ruby Zima auditorium was enveloped with the stunning sounds of violin, trumpet, cello and a wide variety of talented musicians. The Fenton Community Orchestra (FCO) performed their annual holiday show on Dec. 8-9. Both shows began at 7 p.m. and were open to the public with free admission.
FCO conductor Andrew Perkins and the FCO musicians were accompanied by the Simply Strings Orchestra (SS), conducted by Jane Ball. Simply Strings is an orchestra comprised solely of violin, viola, cello and bass—while the FCO also includes bass, flute, piccolo, obe, bassoon, clarinet, clarinet, bass clarinet, horn, trumpet, trombone, bass trombone, baritone, tuba and percussion. The Simply Strings Orchestra opened the show with five of their own songs, ranging from composers like Tchaikovsky to Mariah Carey.
After the opening, Simply Strings was joined by the musicians of the FCO, and the group played one combined song, “March to the Scaffold” by composer Hector Berlioz, performing a medley of melodious tunes.
The FCO’s own set consisted of seven songs, ranging from composers including Perkins himself, and the orchestra concluded the show with a holiday encore of “Sleigh Ride.”
