After four years of volunteer work around the Fenton community, the FHS E.C.O. Club celebrates leading Fenton High to becoming a Michigan Certified Green School.
According to michigan.gov, the Michigan Green School program was established by Michigan’s Public Act 146 of 2006. The program dedicates their time assisting all Michigan schools achieve environmental goals some of which include protecting the air, land, water and animals through ecological practices and environmental management by students from pre-kindergarten through high school.
“It’s an honor to be a Michigan Green School,” E.C.O Club president Ian Mills said. “It shows that as a community we are working towards becoming a more environmentally sustainable and conscious school.”
Some projects the E.C.O Club has been working on to become a Michigan Green School since they were first established in 2020 include weeding and replanting the medians between AGS and FHS, the school recycling program, bringing guest speakers in to talk to students and much more.
“We started working on this my freshman year (2020),” Mills said. “It’s a huge accomplishment for everyone in the club and as president I am extremely honored to share this with everyone in the club, our school and the community.”
The FHS E.C.O Club will continue to take on projects around the Fenton community that will better the environment. For more information regarding how to join the club, contact E.C.O Club advisor Nicholaus Jeffery or attend one of their meetings which are held on the first Tuesday of every month in the lecture hall.
