Students in Fenton High’s marching band who were participating on the Disney trip were thrilled to have not only gone on rides, but also gained more knowledge on music. On Wednesday, Mar. 11, students in the FHS marching band had the opportunity to go to Disney World to try new experiences and to march around the area for 10 minutes on Main Street playing their instruments. The students faced new opportunities with music and parades, and went into various studios to gain a hands-on experience in sight-reading, performance, and music production during the four-park workshop. They were even able to get a thrill from going on rides and seeing the Disney characters there. Despite that, students got to take away a new opportunity and learning experience about music and playing it themselves.
“We went to four different parks,” freshman Cora Campbell said. “The first day we went to Hollywood Studios, getting to go on rides and a light show on the water. Day two, we went to Universal, where there was a Mardi Gras parade, which was super awesome. The third day, we went to the Magic Kingdom. This was the day we marched down Main Street. On our last day, we went to EPCOT and worked on sight reading, along with being able to experience what it is like to record an actual song for a movie. Overall, I thought this was an amazing trip, and I was very happy to be a part of it.”
Freshman Braydyn Pethers also shared his experience during the Disney trip and the new knowledge he gained from it.
“We walked around Disney Hollywood, Magic Kingdom, Universal, and EPCOT,” Pethers said. “We rode rides and ate food. We also learned how to sight-read better and performed really well for the workshop the band went to.”
At the end of the trip, many of the students who were present received a new learning experience, for example, by sight reading, playing their instruments and checking out new studios that presented new music opportunities and hobbies that relate to band. This was also a new and motivational experience for the freshmen and students new to marching band to take such a trip and gain more knowledge about music, more specifically, reading it and getting another chance to show others what they already know and representing FHS.
