Libby Pattan, Writer

Junior Libby Pattan is a first year writer for the Fenton InPrint staff. Libby enjoys writing stories of many different genres and finds lots of inspiration in her day-to-day life. She has been a cheerleader for seven years, and will be participating in her third year on the Fenton varsity cheer team this year. In her free time, she enjoys hanging out with her friends and teammates, going to the beach, reading and watching movies. Libby aspires to go to college after high school and to pursue a career in writing.

“Being a dual sport athlete this year was definitely a challenge. Most days I would have five hours of practice between cheer and gymnastics. This was not only physically tiring, but mentally tiring as well as I had to maintain good grades. The biggest challenge was that some of the competitions were on the same days, but if I could compete at both, I did. Sometimes I had to miss the cheer competitions to compete with my gymnastics team because it was my primary sport. This was hard because I felt like I was letting my cheer team down— especially when we were already short on girls. As much work as it was, I enjoyed competing in both sports last year, and getting to spend time with both teams made it all worth it.” - junior Sophia Markley

“My favorite part about being a senior is the whole senior experience, and all the senior nights for sports and activities that go along with senior year. I also don’t have to stress as much about school as I did junior year because I have more things figured out. I am now planning on attending Grand Valley State University, and studying to go somewhere in the medical field. However the scariest part about being a senior is knowing that in less than a year I won’t be living at home like I have been my whole life, aswell as knowing that everything is going to change. “I think what I am looking forward to the most about graduating is probably going away to college. I am attending Michigan State University in the fall, and I know a lot of my friends are going there aswell as a few people I know at MSU already. The thing I am most nervous for would probably be leaving home and everything I know. Since I am an only child I have always been close with my parents and have lived within the Fenton area for my entire life. “One of my favorite things to do is go on vacations with my family. I love traveling, but my favorite place to go is Florida. I love staying near the beach and spending time with my friends and family where it’s warm. My favorite vacation spot is Florida because there are so many things to do, and it is like the opposite of Michigan, which is nice. “I have been cheering for nine years. I decided to try out for the varsity team this year because it has been my dream since I was little and I ended up making varsity. It felt so rewarding making varsity because I was one of the few freshmen who made the team. I was so excited when I heard the news that I made the team. “This year I enrolled in International Baccalaureate (IB) biology, IB English, IB Chemistry and IB Spanish. I believe that everyone can benefit from taking IB classes. Becoming a better communicator is probably one of the most significant benefits. I have experienced this first hand and have seen that overtime my communication skills have gotten much better. IB classes also bring together a whole community of studious students and staff members who all care and relate to one another. IB classes can be very intense and for me, both the curriculum and putting yourself out there are the hardest aspects of being in them. The curriculum is definitely more difficult compared to the normal level and Advanced Placement classes that I took in sophomore year. Also, I think putting yourself out there is a hard aspect because with IB classes you really have to gather a better understanding of the subject in order to succeed. I personally appreciate the IB teachers and students who are self aware of the pressure that is equally put onto the students.” -junior Josie Xiong

“I have two tattoos. One of them is a rose, which is the start of a full sleeve that I am getting. My plan for my sleeve is to get a separate rose for each member of my family. This one hurt a little more than my first tattoo because the pain levels can be different depending on where you get them. My other tattoo is a skull with drumsticks going through it. I have been playing the drums since the seventh grade, and the tattoo helps represent how music has been a big part of my life and shaped me into who I am today. I personally like the idea of students getting tattoos, it is a great way for someone to express themselves. They also usually have a deeper meaning to the person who gets them, like my rose tattoo for example.” -senior Brad Pattan

“My favorite class this year is Spanish. I am in IB Spanish 1 and I have been taking Spanish classes since the seventh grade. I have made so many friends throughout the years in Spanish classes, and I have loved all of my teachers as well. We also do super fun projects a lot. Some of my favorite projects that we have done have been making piñatas and getting to describe three people of our choice in Spanish. “My favorite thing to do outside of school is archery. I do archery at Oakland County Sportsmen’s Club. I first started when I was eight years old, and I have loved it ever since then. My favorite thing about archery is the new friendships I build through traveling to tournaments and I also love teaching beginners how to shoot. My greatest accomplishment in archery so far was placing 30th in the world tournament in Vegas, which was one of my favorite places I have traveled to for tournaments, along with Columbus, Ohio. “I have a dog named Olive. We rescued her when I was in sixth grade, so she is somewhere around eight or nine years old. We think she’s a Lab-pittie mix, but no one really knows because she was a rescue. She is a very calm dog who sleeps 90 percent of the time, and when she’s not sleeping, she likes to sit around the house. When Olive has a burst of energy, we like to play fetch together.
