Earth Day should be every day

Hannah Young, Writer

Out of 365 days of the year, only one is dedicated to the planet: Earth Day. On this day, people all over the world praise reducing, reusing and recycling. Any other day, those acclaim do not seem to come to mind. We should do better for Earth by making better decisions for the environment, not just on Earth Day, but every day.

Earth day was first created in 1970 after a well off the coast of Santa Barbara, California, blew out on January 28, 1969. In reaction to the blowout, activists created Earth Day, the establishment of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the passage of the Clean Air, Clean Water and Endangered Species Acts.

Taking small steps such as sorting trash into reusable plastic for your household, paper, and recyclables. Shutting the lights off in the other room and using reusable water bottles and bags instead of plastic are all things someone can do everyday to help conserve energy and save the planet.

Taking small steps like this could change the Earth’s future. We use the Earth’s resources which we also share with animals, but humans destroy the resources and abuse them. Earth has undergone environmental and climate changes that is affecting both the humans and animals on it.

By turning ‘green’, we take up practices which is done by working with nature such as reusing and recycling things, replanting, using environment-friendly things and disposing wastes of every kind properly and not to pollute the environment.

Going ‘green’ consists of taking up practices that are eco-friendly such as driving less, reducing plastic use by using less straws, plastic bottles and bags, volunteering for beach and trash cleanup.

Everyday should be Earth day because Earth is undergoing abuse and changes within the environment. Climate and environmental changes that is affecting humans and Earth in a harmful way. Keeping up the practices of eco-friendliness can save Earth. We can do better by making eco-friendly decisions for the sake of the future of Earth.
