It’s never too early to decorate for Christmas

When the holiday season comes around, it brings up a popular debate of when it’s acceptable to decorate houses for Christmas. Some believe that after Halloween people can start decorating for Christmas while others feel that it’s too early and that people should wait until after Thanksgiving.

According to a poll posted on the Fenton InPrint Instagram asking if it is okay to start decorating for Christmas on Nov. 1, 66 percent of respondents voted yes and 34 percent voted no. People tend to decorate for Halloween in early September, and there are no problems. So if it’s ok to decorate for Halloween early, then it’s ok to decorate for Christmas early.

“Decorating your home for Christmas early can create happiness,” Psychologist Deborah Serani told Today Home. “Christmas decorations can create a neurological shift that can produce happiness. The decorations will spike dopamine, which is a feel-good hormone.”

When people decorate for Christmas, it also depends on whether or not they are buying a real tree or have a fake tree. According to an article on Housebeautiful, “Real trees shouldn’t be purchased until Dec. 1. Real trees, if properly cared for, should survive for at least four weeks.” So, if bought earlier there is a chance your tree will be dead by the time Christmas comes around.

Typically when Halloween is over people take down their halloween decorations, and then go right into decorating for the holidays. People tend to do this so that their houses are still decorated to keep them in the holiday spirit.

However, people who want to decorate for Christmas before Thanksgiving shouldn’t have to wait just because some don’t like that idea. People can always decorate for Christmas early and then put up their trees when November is over if they are opting for a real tree over a fake one.

“We shouldn’t hold back anyone’s excitement for the holiday time,” an article by Martha Stewart said. “The holiday time is a moment to celebrate friends and family, to spend quality time with each other, so we shouldn’t hold back anyone’s excitement.”

So decorate your house when you want to— don’t worry about what other people have to say— because in the end, the only thing that matters is if you’re happy with it.
