“Pour with purpose” is the tagline of the mobile coffee truck that undoubtedly serves an impactful purpose to the Fenton community.
Way Coffee Co. is a nonprofit organization that, according to their website, “is committed to providing a meaningful curriculum and employment experience for young adults with learning differences.”
FHS teacher Julie Montana has worked closely with the owners of Way Coffee Co. to work towards growth and development within her students. She has seen firsthand the positive impact this experience has had on her students, “We have witnessed a significant boost in confidence among our students; they are acquiring new skills and are enthusiastic about meeting new people and creating new drinks.”
This organization works to provide essential tailored instruction that is often missing within the educational system, and “take the powerful parts of the teaching process, with the autonomy to leave the rest.”
Way Coffee has been a rewarding, but also challenging endeavor for Montana and her students, “The best part has been students and staffs excitement for something new. The most challenging part is the logistics — figuring out who goes where and when.”
The entire experience of Way Coffee as a whole has been incredibly rewarding to the individuals involved, and has undoubtedly given student participants the tools to succeed in the real world.
“My hope for our students is to find a career they enjoy and happiness in life,” Montana stated.
The truck can be found weekly at differing locations. On Mondays and Tuesdays, the truck is located at 2nd Street, and at Fenton High School on Fridays. The last Friday for this school year is May 17. For more information, or to make a donation, click here.
