Students are shoulder-to-shoulder each day in the hallways, but how much do they really know about the people walking next to them? This series will feature the students of FHS along with their talents, hobbies and passions. “A Closer Look” is meant to showcase what makes the students of FHS who they are.
Senior Seth Hodges has a special knack for cooking. Hodges has had a passion for cooking ever since the lockdown during COVID-19. Ever since then, he has continued mastering his craft and plans on continuing his passion in the future.
The first time Hodges realized he liked cooking was when he made a homemade pizza for the first time during seventh grade when Covid hit. Now, he makes food for large groups of people, including some of the FHS staff.
“I like preparing food for others,” Hodges said. To me it’s sort of of like a way to express myself while also giving other people a glimpse of what I enjoy doing.”
Hodges prefers cooking over baking because he feels he is better at cooking. Hodges likes to cook and make many things, but he has a few favorites.
“I like making sauces a lot,” Hodgest said, “but one thing I love to cook in particular is probably a pizza or anything that uses multiple cooking methods.”
Hodges hopes to continue learning about food at college next year. He plans to attend Schoolcraft College in Livonia. Hodges liked this school the best when compared to other universities in the area.
“I liked how professional everything felt,” Hodges said. “I will also be able to work independently instead of in group settings which I would rather do when learning because you’re the person doing all of the work instead of not doing certain steps to a recipe because someone else is doing it for you.”
After school, Hodges is unsure what his career will look like, but he is certain he wants to pursue cooking. He has been learning better techniques at the Genesee Career Institute and feels prepared to go to college next year and then whatever comes next.
