For the first time in several years, Fenton High will be having their junior and senior prom well into the month of May. There are several benefits that FHS students will appreciate. While some may be worried about moving prom back, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
The first benefit is the warm weather that comes with May. There is nothing more disappointing than getting excited for prom but it ends up being cold and rainy. With prom being in May, students can enjoy warmer weather and hopefully a sunny evening.
Another advantage to a late prom is it gives students more time to figure out their outfits. Finding the right dress or tux can be stressful, especially with busy academic or extracurricular schedules. A later date allows more time for planning outfits and gives more time for any alterations that might need to be made.
With prom being later, it also decreases the likelihood of conflicting prom dates with other schools. When proms overlap, it can be hard for students to go with friends or dates from other schools. A May prom allows students to enjoy being at prom without feeling like you have to choose between two events.
Now, the primary reason prom is so late this year is because FHS will be spending their evening on the Detroit Princess Riverboat once again. Students are very excited that this tradition is back and it is definitely worth waiting an extra month for prom.
Overall, prom being in May has several benefits for FHS students and the positives definitely outweigh the negatives.
