It is highly important that new students get a warm welcome after transferring to another school, not only for their comfort, but also so they can get a good impression of what goes on in the building and the better opportunities for themselves. Fenton High (FHS) offers advanced classes for those who desire an opportunity for an advanced class or a challenge for themselves. FHS has had a fair number of students who have transferred into the Fenton Schools district this year, and some have given their thoughts and opinions of FHS and why they chose this district.
Freshman Mackenzie Cutter gave her reasons why and her thoughts on her time being in FHS after transferring from Holly Academy at the beginning of the year.
“I transferred from Holly Academy, and I was there in Young 5’s through eighth grade,” Cutter said. “I came to Fenton for better education opportunities, such as the honors class I am in. So far, I like the High School. Honors proves to be as rigorous as I thought, and I have made some friends since joining.”
Freshman Rowyn Roberts gave her thoughts on how FHS has been for her since transferring at the beginning of the year from Pickering High School.
“I transferred from Pickering High in Louisiana,” Roberts said. “We moved to Fenton to get closer to my grandpa, where I also transferred to Fenton High. The school is really nice with kind teachers and students. I also like the wide variety of sports.”
Lastly, freshman Brooklyn Gonwicha talked about her transition from homeschooling to high school at the start of the school year.
“I was homeschooled last year, but then transferred to Fenton High School where my father got a job,” Gonwicha said. “So far, I like the school.“
FHS provides a variety of advanced classes and opportunities that students can take interest in. The variety of sports frequently expands each year, which allows transfer students new to the district to get an idea of what avocation(s) they could get involved in and find something more that they like. Honors classes, IB and AP programs are always available to give new students a chance at expanding their interests and smarts, and according to science teacher Nicholaus Jeffrey, an AP physics class may be getting added into FHS for students to take by choice, however, it is still a work in progress.
