As the NFL season comes to a close, the most important game of the year between the Chiefs and the Eagles remains to be played in the Super Bowl. Super Bowl 59 will occur on Feb. 9 in New Orleans between the Kansas City Chiefs from the American Football Conference and the Philadelphia Eagles from the National Football Conference (NFC). The Super Bowl comes with tons of viewers and engagement, so here are some of my predictions for how Super Bowl 59 will go.
- Saquon Barkley will solidify his Super Bowl MVP case with a monster performance.
Barkley has been dominant all season, leading the league with over 2,000 yards rushing. Barkley has carried this momentum into the playoffs, torching the Washington Commanders in the NFC championship game, for 118 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Although the Chiefs have the eighth-ranked run defense in the league, Saquon has been having his way against every defense he’s faced this season. If Saquon wants a ring and his Super Bowl MVP trophy, he will need to have a big game in the Super Bowl.
2. The Chiefs will keep it close but end up with the Lombardi Trophy.
The Chiefs, led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes, have been in 12 one-score games so far this season. In those 12 games, the Chiefs are a perfect 12-0. It’s clear the Chiefs are missing some of the star power from their former Super Bowl-winning seasons resulting in so many close games this season. I also predict this game will be close because of Philadelphia’s high-powered defense led by safety Darius Slay. However, I believe Mahomes’ experience will prevail and he will continue his hot streak, grabbing his third Super Bowl in a row and fourth in total.
3. A fourth Super Bowl will solidify Mahomes as the Greatest Of All Time.
Mahomes has a record of 17-3 in the playoffs and 3-1 in the Super Bowl, which makes him the fourth-most-winning quarterback of all time. Although Tom Brady is widely considered the best football player of all time, Mahomes is on his heels and after a fourth Super Bowl, it could push him over the hump. Not to mention Mahomes has won these games with objectively worse teams. This being said, Mahomes has carried his team to three straight Super Bowls and would be the only quarterback to win three in a row, giving him the perfect case for the goat conversation.
4. This Super Bowl will be one of the worst-rated to date.
It’s no secret that fans of the NFL are tired of both the Chiefs and the Eagles dominating the league year after year. With the widely known “questionable” calls the Chiefs get, only about 11% of viewers are rooting for Kansas City to win their third straight according to Sportico.com. However, this doesn’t mean fans are rooting for the Eagles either. The Eagles also won recently in the 2017 Super Bowl, which was the infamous underdog-winning game of Nick Foles. The Chiefs and Eagles also met in the 2022 Super Bowl where the Chiefs pulled out a win 38-35. It’s safe to say the public is tired of seeing these two teams in the Super Bowl. As a result, I expect this year’s game to be a poorly viewed broadcast.
All in All, this Super Bowl will be one to remember with all the headlines going into the game. Kansas City has a chance to be the first team in NFL history to three-peat in the Super Bowl going down as the best team in NFL history. Both teams have been dominant but have narratives to prove. Although these teams might not produce the most exciting matchup, this Super Bowl should be a fun one.
