Update on fall varsity sports

Nine fall varsity sports are heading into the last legs of their seasons.

The varsity football team is undefeated at 8-0. They have conquered teams such as Swartz Creek, Linden, Flushing, and Flint Kearsley.

“The team has done very well this year,” starting defensive lineman senior Devin Fuller said. “Our biggest game is definitely against Waterford Mott, but other than that if we put forth a lot of effort we will come out on top of any team we play. If we stay in Division Three for playoffs I think was have a very good chance of making a run in the playoffs. But that will depend on how much we work as a team.”

The runners on the varsity cross country team are preparing for postseason competitions including regionals on Oct. 28 at Hess Hathaway Park.

“We just finished up our final Flint Metro Jamboree,” senior Peter Kennings said. “We were crowned Metro League Champs for the second consecutive time. Right now we are preparing for regionals and states. We are in the championship part of our season.”

Kennings is confident in the team’s ability to do well.

“With our great coaching staff and the determination that we hold as a team, I believe every runner is going to have a fantastic end to the season,” Kennings said. “Boys and girls have the opportunity to go to states. With all the support we hold as a program I expect us to compete and finish strong at regionals and states.”

Varsity volleyball is also making its way into the playoffs as its regular season comes to an end.

“We have been practicing every day,” setter sophomore Sydney Acho said. “We are trying to get better for our tri that we have against Grand Blanc and Powers next Tuesday.”

As the regular season is ending, Acho has begun preparation for the post season.

“Right now, we are trying to do our best at everything we do,” Acho said. “If we work hard, I believe we have a chance at going all the way. We need to be positive and never give up, even when we are playing some of the best teams that we will see.”

The team hosts a varsity volleyball Tournament on Oct. 24 beginning at 8 a.m.. Their first regional game is home against Carman-Ainsworth on Oct. 30. Cross Country will compete in regionals on Oct. 28 at Hess Hathaway in Waterford. Lastly, varsity football will compete against Carman-Ainsworth at home Oct. 27.
