Students are shoulder to shoulder each day in the hallways, but how much do they really know about the people walking next to them? This series will feature the students of FHS along with their talents, hobbies and passions. “A Closer Look” is meant to showcase what makes the students of FHS who they are.
Fenton High is full of students with different interests and hobbies. Junior David Henderson spends his time reading, watching films and composing his own literary works.
“I was born in Santa Fe New Mexico,” Henderson said. “Then we moved to Maine, to Baltimore—had a terrible time in Baltimore. Moved to Wyoming after that then came back to Michigan.”
Henderson was originally homeschooled, living in Flint. “I was homeschooled at the time of the Flint water crisis so I didn’t have many friends. I had to learn social cues afterwards. I got to travel around a lot and went to Washington, D.C.; I got to see a congressional court hearing and ended up in the Office of the Secretary of State.”
In the future, Henderson plans on attending Central Michigan University to study film. He wants to become a college professor. Henderson has a deep love for film and hopes to make a career out of it.
“My favorite genre is definitely coming of age, movies like ‘Kings of Summer’ and ‘Stand by Me.’ ‘Stand by Me’ is a great period piece; it balances the innocence of boyhood and conflicts of living on earth in an urban environment.”
Henderson enjoys writing poetry as well. He posts many of his works online and is even featured in the poetry collection “Color Psychology Braindump.” This book can be purchased via his linktree. Some of his works can be viewed here.
