According to the National Dairy Association, there are approximately 80,000 ice cream, gelato and frozen yogurt shops in the U.S. In the first or second week in April, Fenton will be receiving a new business called The Scoop of Fenton, which will serve ice cream and coffee products.

“We have a variety of unique options we will be selling,” owner Zoey Barman said. “We plan on having Hershey’s premium and gold ice cream and our primary focus will be devoted to extravagant shakes, also known as ‘freak shakes.’ We plan to have ice cream specialties that are decorated with candy and other treats. Along with all our ice cream varieties we plan on serving coffee basics as well, such as Cappuccinos, Lattes and a featured Affogato.”

The location of the new ice cream shop will be at the past location of A Joyful Noise Music Studio on West Shiawassee Avenue, between The Laundry and the Fenton House.

“We initially started with Kim’s Cones, across the street [from the new location],” Barman said. “Once we saw the potential success, we knew we wanted to make it into something bigger. The project began at the start of 2019 and we’ve been working nonstop since; we are hoping for this to be a place that the entire community loves.”

The town of Fenton already has a couple of ice cream and dessert businesses for people to visit, such as Uncle Ray’s Dairyland, the Firehall Pumphouse, and The Crust, but The Scoop of Fenton will offer something different to customers.

“We have always loved Uncle Ray’s, and believe that we may be competing with them, although our concept is not the regular ice cream shop,” Barman said. “With our extravagant shakes and delicious coffee, we offer different things to the community. We had many designers help with the shop and we think we created a really original look. Additionally, with our downtown location, we will provide an easily accessible place for anyone walking to enjoy as well.”

The Scoop of Fenton is also hiring and open interviews will be held on March 20 from 3:30 to 6:00. Anyone looking to apply can contact the Facebook page (click here) or the Instagram page (click here) with any questions.
